Bottom Line

Maps is the WARLOCK-INDEX hub for public map and geospatial references: official map portals, charting sources, geographic-name references, and theater map packets.

Use maps for orientation and source provenance. They can preserve publisher language, record command-area framing, and point readers to the right source packet, but they do not by themselves establish sovereignty, control, threat intent, military access, basing availability, vulnerability, or operational feasibility.

Map Workflow

Start with the research question: orientation, naming, command-area framing, nautical reference, issuer perspective, historical context, or commercial-data lead.
Pick the map lane using the geospatial triage guide.
Apply caveats from the caveat playbook.
Pair map evidence with non-map sources before making any claim about control, sovereignty, access, disruption, coercion, basing, or capability.
Queue the source for refresh when the lane is interactive, commercial, contested, or event-driven.

Extraction Rules

Prefer public maps from official or high-reliability publishers.
Record publisher, URL, accessed UTC, publication or release date where available, product title, map family, and source purpose.
Label map use as static orientation, command-area framing, geographic-name support, nautical-chart source reference, topographic reference, historical/archival source, legal-source companion, or issuer perspective.
Preserve disputed names, boundaries, statuses, and source terms rather than silently normalizing them.
Pair maps with non-map evidence before making threat, coercion, access, basing, legal, control, or capability claims.
Keep generated images and decorative graphics out of the map-resource lane unless they are clearly labeled as illustrations and not source evidence.
Treat public AIS ship-tracking maps as volatile commercial source-discovery tools. Do not embed live vessel layers, track individual vessels, infer patrol patterns, publish routes, or use AIS map gaps as proof of absence.
